Restoration Hardware draws a crowd

Who'd have thought a furniture store could be the party spot of the year? A "limited capacity" crowd of about 1,800 filled every inch of Restoration Hardware's new 25,000 square foot Gallery at Highland Village and adjacent Baby & Child Design Showroom (for parents who aren't into primary colors).

We suspect the social set will clamor to rent the rooftop garden conservatory (another 7,000 square feet), which includes a David Brown floral boutique. "That's not in the plans," said co-CEO Carlos Alberini, who oversees the company's operations. But the night was young - and chairman and co-CEO Gary Friedman, looking explorer-dapper, might be convinced if a pretty lady asked.

He set this night's tone with gourmet bites by Michael Chiarello, wine from Blackbird Vineyards, fresh bellinis from New York's Cipriani and a performance by Lykke Li.
